# UP Deputy CM urges 20-year appliance life, LG sees opportunity

LG Electronics India said it treats long-lasting appliances as an opportunity for brand loyalty, not a threat, responding to UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak's call for products that last at least 20 years. Speaking at the Digit India's Top Appliance Awards 2026 (DITAA 2026) in Delhi, Pathak urged manufacturers to build longer-lasting, upgradable products and criticised planned obsolescence. He suggested buyback or upgrade programs. LG's Sanjay Chitkara said the company does not push artificial obsolescence. The awards, presented by Times Network and powered by Haier, recognised over 140 products across 150 parameters, including refrigerators, air conditioners and televisions.
