The US Department of Justice has charged 11 people for running a decade-long scheme that arranged fraudulent marriages to help hundreds of Chinese nationals obtain green cards. Officials said the group orchestrated more than 1,000 sham weddings from New York, paying American citizens up to $30,000 each. The defendants charged clients up to $100,000 per green card, netting tens of millions of dollars. Attorney General Todd Blanche called it one of the largest marriage fraud prosecutions in US history. The 11 accused, including wedding officiants, were indicted in New York.
