# Uttara Kannada MLAs oppose Mangaluru High Court bench shift

Two Uttara Kannada MLAs have opposed bringing the district under the proposed High Court circuit bench at Mangaluru. Bhimanna Naik said residents from border areas would have to travel 300 to 400 km to reach Mangaluru, wasting time and money. Yellapur MLA Shivaram Hebbar agreed, calling it a huge burden. The District Bar Association president Nagaraj Naik termed the proposal geographically and administratively impractical. Meanwhile, residents in Ankola submitted a memorandum to the tahsildar demanding the district stay under the Dharwad bench, citing closer links with Hubballi-Dharwad.
