# Vacant site owners face Rs 1.7 lakh cleaning charges

Owners of vacant plots in Bengaluru face cleaning charges of up to Rs 1.7 lakh if they fail to clear debris by August 15. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has released rates the five city corporations will charge, which will be added to property tax. For a 40x60 square-foot site, cleaning costs Rs 27,800 and transport Rs 76,800, totalling over Rs 1 lakh. The Deccan Herald reports Minister Krishna Byre Gowda had urged owners to act by the deadline in July. The Times of India says the move is part of the 'Freedom from Waste' campaign under the Solid Waste Management By-laws 2020, which makes owners responsible for vacant site maintenance. Owners can hire authorised agencies or face civic enforcement.
