The block spans over 3,100 hectares and holds an estimated 200-million-tonne reserve. The auction, held on 29 May under the Mines and Minerals Act, saw interest from Adani Enterprises, Reliance Industries, Hindalco and others. Hindalco, which reported a 75% jump in net profit to Rs 7,013 crore for the June quarter, said it would remain financially disciplined in bidding for bauxite mines. Managing director Satish Pai said the company would avoid excessively high premiums that could permanently raise production costs.
