# Vedanta wins bid for Andhra Pradesh manganese block

Vedanta Ltd has been declared the successful bidder for the Punnam manganese block in Andhra Pradesh, the company said in a BSE filing on Friday. The block, spread over 152 hectares, is at the G4 stage of exploration, the initial phase of mineral prospecting. The acquisition strengthens Vedanta's diversified metals and mining portfolio and supports India's goal of reducing manganese imports. Manganese ore is a key input for ferro-manganese and silico-manganese alloys used in steel production.
