VIT founder and chancellor G. Viswanathan met Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi on Thursday and urged the Centre to speed up the remaining work at the new Vellore airport on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway. A VIT press release said Naidu assured Viswanathan that the airport would be inaugurated soon and flight services would begin shortly. The release did not provide a date for the inauguration, identify the remaining works or name airlines expected to operate from the airport.
