Indian spacetech startups raised over $871 million till July 2026, according to Tracxn's first report on the sector. Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 mission, Mission Aagaman, boosted investor confidence, helping the company become India's first spacetech unicorn with a $1.1 billion valuation after a $60 million May fundraise. The industry, which has grown from 10-15 startups in 2018 to over 400 today, expects the next $1 billion in cumulative funding within three to five years, driven by government support and increasing venture capital interest. Policy measures such as the Rs 1,000 crore space sector venture fund and Technology Development Fund have spurred startup formation, says Lt Gen AK Bhatt (retd.), founding director general of the Indian Space Association. Early-stage funding has eased, with Abyro Capital launching Beacon, a programme offering $500,000 first cheques. But founders say rounds above $10-20 million remain hard to secure, with banks still hesitant to lend against space assets.
