Suriya’s Vishwanath and Sons collected Rs 31.51 crore worldwide on its opening day, TeluguCinema.com reports. India contributed Rs 17.51 crore and overseas markets Rs 14 crore. The Telugu states brought in around Rs 7 crore, despite the film being a Tamil production dubbed into Telugu. M9.news estimated the global opening at about Rs 30 crore, making the two reports broadly consistent. The family drama follows an Olympic pistol-shooting gold medallist who reconnects with his child’s surrogate mother after the child develops a serious health problem. Cinema Express reports that the film has promising revenue but trails Suriya’s earlier mass entertainer, Karuppu. Positive audience response may help collections during the Independence Day holiday weekend, with Cinema Express expecting the film to cross Rs 50 crore soon.
