Vyjayanthimala, born on August 13, 1936 in Chennai, was raised by her mother and grandmother. She became a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer before entering films. She starred in classics like Devdas, Madhumati, and Sangam. Rumours linked her romantically with Raj Kapoor; she denied them. Rishi Kapoor's autobiography recalled family tension. She later fell in love with Dr Chamanlal Bali, Raj Kapoor's friend and physician. Despite his being married, they married in 1968 after his divorce. She left films at her peak, focusing on classical dance. The couple settled in Chennai with son Suchindra. Dr Bali died in 1986.
