Activist Sonam Wangchuk has denied ending his 26-day hunger strike after a private deal with the Centre. He told India Today, as reported by Mathrubhumi, that Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh promised not to release photographs of them offering him soup until Opposition and student representatives joined the announcement. Wangchuk alleged the images appeared on television within minutes. The Times of India reports that his wife, Gitanjali Angmo, had also sought Rahul Gandhi’s help to end the fast, but received no positive response. Wangchuk said the episode left him disappointed with political leaders across parties.
