# Waris Punjab De fields Indira Gandhi killer’s son for 2027 Punjab polls

Akali Dal Waris Punjab De (ADWPD) on Monday named Satwant Singh, son of executed Indira Gandhi assassination convict Kehar Singh, as its candidate for the Bassi Pathana seat in the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Tarsem Singh, father of jailed MP Amritpal Singh, made the announcement at the Amritsar Press Club. The move has stirred Panthic circles as Amrit Kaur Maloa, sister of Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, had earlier declared her intention to contest the same seat. Sarabjit Singh Khalsa was present at the announcement. India Today reports the party says the candidature honours families that sacrificed for the Panth and is not driven by electoral considerations.
