Samples of water collected from 15 locations in Ward Nos. 8, 9, and 10 at Woraiyur in Tiruchi have tested negative for harmful pathogenic organisms, Corporation officials said on Monday.

Following complaints of water contamination, samples were collected from 15 locations, including the water sources at Kambarasampettai and Kollidam, overhead water tanks at Woraiyur, taps at Pannikan Street, Pandamangalam Main Road, Nachiyapuram, near Chellandiyamman Kovil and from tanker lorry on Sunday for testing. Patients in their middle age with more than four episodes of diarrhoea and patients aged over 70 with two episodes are being admitted to both government and private hospitals for treatment,” said Dr. Chandran.

On Monday, as part of precautionary measures, medicines, including antibiotics and zinc tablets, were given to 9,025 individuals and over 14,000 oral rehydration salt packets were distributed. As many as 40 patients were treated as outpatients in the medical camp and 34 were admitted to hospitals. Of these, 27 were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital and seven to private hospitals in the city. About 20 people who were admitted to hospitals on Sunday were discharged.
