The West Bengal government has formally invited the Tata Group to set up new industries in the state and is discussing an out-of-court settlement of its Rs 765.78 crore compensation dispute with Tata Motors. The outreach follows the company’s exit from Singur in 2008 after protests over land acquired for the Nano project. The arbitration tribunal ordered the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation to pay Rs 765.78 crore with 11% annual interest.
