WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Ebola is spreading faster than response efforts in Congo. New cases are doubling in some hotspots, with 3,874 confirmed cases and 1,751 deaths reported by Monday. The outbreak began in mid-May and is the second-largest on record. It is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, which has no approved treatment or vaccine. Some health workers in Ituri province have reportedly stopped work over unpaid wages and poor pay.
