The Hunsur Rural police have arrested a woman who allegedly poisoned and killed her husband.
The police said that the accused, Sallapuri, has been remanded in judicial custody.
Sallapuri was accused of poisoning her husband Venkataswamy and partially burying his body and covering it with dung and vegetation.
On Tuesday, the accused approached the police and filed a missing person complaint, in which she alleged that her husband rushed out of the house on hearing the noise of a wild animal but never returned. She also expressed suspicion that her husband might have been attacked and dragged away by the animal.
During the investigation, the police and the Forest Department authorities found that there were no pugmarks of any animal nor any telltale evidence of a human being dragged by a wild animal.
After a thorough examination of the scene, the police followed a trail and discovered the body of Venkataswamy, partially buried in a pit. The police quizzed the accused who reportedly confessed to the crime.
It turned out that the accused was allegedly fuelled by greed for compensation amount given to the kin of victims of wild animal attacks.
