Christy John, 32, and her mother-in-law Lissy were attacked by Joy Punnattukuzhiyil. The Piravom police took him into custody. Ms John suffered abdominal injuries, Ms Lissy a wrist wound. According to the FIR, Joy attacked his daughter-in-law because she used to question him for physically assaulting her mother-in-law. Both women were admitted to Medical College Hospital, Kottayam.
