Mahadevappa for the Karnataka Cabinet, but not Chamarajpet MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan. Mahadevappa’s name, he said, topped a list of 14 names and was proposed both when the Ministry was formed and during its expansion. The Congress high command chose P.M. Narendraswamy as the new Dalit Right representative instead. Yathindra said the high command preferred Zameer over senior Mysuru leader Tanveer Sait for a Muslim ministerial berth, denying that Siddaramaiah excluded either leader. Congress sources, however, claimed Siddaramaiah recommended neither Sait nor Mahadevappa and that the two leaders had strained relations.
