Record-breaking speed climber Jake Whisenant, 30, died on August 3 after a fall in the Sierra Nevada. The Tulare County Coroner ruled his death an accident caused by blunt force trauma, the New York Post reports. A witness saw him fall, leading to instant death, TMZ reported. Whisenant gained fame in October 2024 when he and Brant Hysell climbed Yosemite's El Capitan via the Lurking Fear route in 2 hours, 55 minutes, and 32 seconds, breaking a previous record. A GoFundMe has been launched by his fiance Emma to honour his legacy.
