Livemint reports that as India prepares for its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, investors are being urged to calculate their personal 'freedom number' for financial independence rather than targeting a standard corpus like Rs 5 crore or Rs 10 crore. Siddharth Maurya, Managing Director of Vibhvangal Anukulara Pvt Ltd, says the required corpus depends on individual spending, retirement age, inflation, debt, dependents, and healthcare costs. For a 35-year-old spending Rs 1 lakh monthly who plans to retire at 60, monthly expenses at retirement could range from Rs 2.67 lakh (4% inflation) to Rs 4.29 lakh (6% inflation), pushing the required corpus from about Rs 8 crore to Rs 12.9 crore. Outstanding loans, children's education, and healthcare, which may inflate faster than general costs, must be factored in separately.
