The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Monday lambasted the State government for its alleged failure to come to the rescue of mango farmers who are distressed over lack of remunerative prices and the pulp industry not purchasing their yield.
TTD former chairman Bhumana Karunakara Reddy, former MLA Biyyapu Madhusudhan Reddy, and other leaders inspected the arrangements for the helipad at Bangarupalyam in view former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit on July 9 to interact with the farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Karunakara Reddy alleged that the government is creating hurdles for Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Bangarupalyam and has imposed several restrictions even after giving permission for the former CM’s tour.
He said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had visited Chittoor and promised all possible support to the farmers, but the farmers are still not getting the support price announced by the government. “The government is jittery about Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tour as their failures will be exposed,” he said.
“The neighbouring Karnataka State government, with the support of the Centre, is purchasing 2.5 lakh tonnes of mango at a cost of ₹16 per kilo. On the other hand, the A.P. State government had announced just ₹4 per kilo,” he said and added that the government should also compensate those farmers who had left the yield in fields.
