Seven devotees were killed and hundreds injured in a stampede at Ashokdham temple in Bihar's Lakhisarai district on Monday. The incident occurred after astrologers falsely claimed that the day, observed as Nag Panchami in the Shravan month, was an exceptionally auspicious occasion that would not recur for a decade, tupaki.com reports. Hundreds of devotees thronged the temple early Monday for a darshan. Panic broke out when a loose electrical wire fell among the crowd. Although officials later stated the wire was not live, devotees fled in fear, triggering a stampede. Authorities rushed the injured to hospitals. The state government has announced support for the affected families.
