Zinc is emerging as a strategic industrial enabler for India's development, supporting infrastructure, manufacturing, renewable energy, agriculture, and next-generation energy storage, The Hindu BusinessLine reports. Corrosion-related losses could amount to nearly 5 per cent of India's GDP, and global corrosion costs are about $2.5 trillion annually. Zinc coatings, applied through galvanising or thermal spray metallising, extend asset life and reduce lifecycle costs. The metal is also vital for electric vehicles, solar and wind infrastructure, and zinc-based batteries for stationary storage. Over half of India's cultivated soils are deficient in plant-available zinc, making zinc-enriched fertilisers key to food security.
