12-year-old girl raped, killed in J-K’s Budgam district

A 12-year-old girl who went missing in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district was found murdered about 200 metres from her home on Sunday. Police said the child was reported missing on Saturday evening from Galwanpora area, and her body was discovered the next morning. SSP Budgam Hariprasad K K said prima facie it appears to be a case of rape and murder, and relevant sections have been added to the FIR.

Chief preacher of Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed deep shock, saying the incident has shaken the conscience of every human being. He called for a thorough, transparent, and time-bound investigation, demanding the strictest punishment for those responsible. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the incident as shocking and deeply distressing, offering condolences to the family.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination as the investigation continues.
