Over 4,800 Indians deported in Trump immigration crackdown

More than 4,800 Indian nationals have been deported since Donald Trump returned to the US presidency, according to figures from India's Ministry of External Affairs cited by Greatandhra. Of these, 3,567 were deported last year and 1,273 in the first half of this year. The crackdown by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is also targeting long-term residents and green card holders, including Venkata Vasamsetty, a lawful permanent resident since 2013 who was arrested despite a judge earlier dismissing removal efforts.

Stop AAPI Hate reports that Indians are now the most targeted Asian group by ICE, accounting for nearly 28% of 14,402 Asians arrested between January 2025 and March 2026 and a similar share of deportations. ICE arrests surged to around 51,000 in July, and enforcement has expanded beyond final deportation orders to include green card disputes and visa cases. Immigration courts have issued more than 9.6 lakh deportation orders since Trump returned, with Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware accounting for about half.
