7 injured in ABVP-NSUI clash at EFLU, cases filed

A clash between ABVP and NSUI members at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Hyderabad on August 14 left seven students injured. Police said four NSUI members suffered serious head injuries and were hospitalised. Cases have been registered against both groups at Osmania University police station. Seven ABVP members were arrested and sent to judicial custody, while seven NSUI members were arrested and later granted station bail, police added.

The NSUI accused ABVP members of using casteist slurs against a student and assaulting the EFLU Students' Union Vice-President. It alleged that ABVP members attacked with sticks and glass bottles, leaving several seriously injured. The ABVP said its members held a peaceful protest after a warden spoke rudely to two female students and over hostel facility issues, and that NSUI members disrupted it with arguments and abusive language. ABVP's EFLU unit has demanded an impartial inquiry and immediate release of its seven members.
