Akshay Kumar begins shoot for alien survival thriller Samuk
Akshay Kumar has started filming 'Samuk', a survival-action thriller set in an alien-themed world. Directed by Kanishk Varma and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film is described by the Times of India as a big-budget, pan-Indian theatrical release aiming for global reach. The creature effects are designed by Oscar-nominated Alec Gillis, known for the Alien and Predator franchises, with British action director Luke Tumber handling stunts.
Kumar announced the shoot on August 24, revealing his character name as Vivaan Ahuja and sharing a video from an undisclosed UK location. The project has been in development for over two years. However, m9.news reports mixed reactions online: some fans and trade experts are hopeful but caution that success depends on a strong storyline and controlled budget, while others doubt the film's box office prospects, citing producer Shah's past record and director Varma's OTT-only hits. A release date has not been announced.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The Times of India's coverage frames 'Samuk' as an ambitious genre spectacle, highlighting international talent and Shah's emotional reunion with Kumar. M9.news foregrounds online scepticism about the producer's track record, the director's OTT background, and comparisons to past flops. The m9 piece amplifies negative fan speculation without attribution to verified trade sources, while ToI omits any commercial risk discussion. A balanced reading: the film has strong technical credentials, but its box office fate hinges on the as-yet-unrevealed script and budget, factors neither source can yet evaluate.
