Amit Mishra returns to Delhi Capitals as spin-bowling coach
The Story in Brief
Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has been appointed spin-bowling coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2027, the franchise announced on Wednesday, 21 October 2026. Mishra, 43, who retired from all cricket in September 2025, takes up a top-level coaching role for the first time. He is the franchise's all-time leading wicket-taker with 110 wickets in 103 matches, and overall has 174 wickets in 162 IPL matches, the only bowler to take three hat-tricks in the league.
Mishra joins a revamped support staff led by head coach Sourav Ganguly, assistant and batting coach Yuvraj Singh, and fast-bowling coach Chaminda Vaas. The entire previous coaching staff has been moved on. Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the 2026 season and are yet to win an IPL title.
Indian Opinion Analysis
All eight outlets report the appointment as a straight news story with no discernible editorial slant. The coverage is uniform: every source leads with Mishra's return, his IPL record as the only bowler with three hat-tricks, and his joining a star-studded coaching staff alongside Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, and Chaminda Vaas. Several sources include Mishra's own words from the franchise's video, and most note the complete overhaul of the backroom staff. The only variation is in length and minor details: Times Now and Yes Punjab list the departed staff by name, while Mint and ToI focus on Mishra's career numbers. No outlet frames the move as a critique of past performance or as a political manoeuvre. The next concrete item to watch is the IPL 2027 season, for which the franchise is building its support staff.
