Andhra Pradesh on high alert over Ebola outbreak in Africa

Millenniumpost reports that Andhra Pradesh Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav said the state is on high alert after Ebola cases and deaths were reported in Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan. The state government has started screening passengers arriving from affected countries at international airports in Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Vijayawada. Individuals showing symptoms will be quarantined, and close contacts will also be screened.

Yadav said discussions have been held with Visakhapatnam Port authorities, and district administrations have been instructed to take preventive measures. Surveillance will extend to road routes as well. Dedicated isolation wards with 15 beds each are being readied at teaching hospitals in cities with international airports. The minister urged people to avoid non-essential travel to the affected countries, in line with Central government advisories.
