Anurag Kashyap: Bollywood bends to power, South doesn’t

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has said Bollywood caves more easily to those in power than the South Indian film industry. In a conversation with Janice Sequeira, he argued that the first compromise is the hardest to undo because it brings rewards that make further concessions difficult to resist.

Kashyap explained that people who depend on the Hindi-speaking audience are the ones who bend. "South doesn't get compromised because they don't depend on Hindi," he said, adding that industry insiders are aware of their compromises and feel ashamed but cannot act on their own.

The director's latest film, Bandar, starring Bobby Deol, earned positive reviews but collected only Rs 4.97 crore at the box office.
