Ayush Shetty stuns world No.1 Shi Yu Qi at BWF World Championships

India's Ayush Shetty caused a major upset at the BWF World Championships on Monday, defeating world No.1 and defending champion Shi Yu Qi of China 21-14, 13-21, 21-19 in the round of 64 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The 21-year-old, ranked 20th in the world, recorded his first win in four meetings against the Chinese shuttler in a 73-minute battle.

According to timesnownews.com and Hindustan Times, Shetty credited his mental and physical preparation for the tough match. He said he focused on staying calm as Shi mounted a late charge in the decider, winning eight of the next nine points and saving four match points. Sportstar reported that Shi acknowledged Shetty had made changes to his game since their previous encounter at the Asian Championships.

Shetty will face Sri Lanka's Dumindu Abeywickrama in the round of 32 for a place in the round of 16.
