Bahutule says work done on Jadeja, Saransh no-ball issue

India's spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule has said that extensive work has been put in with Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Saransh Jain on their no-ball problem, after spinners bowled 10 no-balls in the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Bahutule acknowledged the issue is a concern but attributed it partly to bowlers pushing harder when wickets are not coming, though he stressed that is not an excuse.

Countering the notion that the habit seeps in from net sessions, Bahutule said reminders are given during practice and that sessions are monitored from the side view, with coaches sometimes standing as umpires. He added, tongue-in-cheek, that a penalty like a free-hit in limited-overs cricket might reduce such errors in Tests.

Bahutule praised Saransh for his character on debut despite some decisions not going his way. Sri Lanka's Sonal Dinusha, who scored a century in the first innings, said he hopes to contribute further as Sri Lanka tries to avoid a whitewash.
