Bengaluru court bars fake news on Yash’s Toxic, Victory Cinema skips release

A Bengaluru court issued an ex parte temporary injunction on August 22 against the publication or circulation of false or defamatory content about the Yash-starrer film Toxic, which released on August 26. The order, passed by the Additional City Civil and Sessions Court on a suit by producer KVN Productions, restrains defendants including X Corp and unidentified persons from sharing malicious material about the film. The court cited a prima facie case and said the injunction remains in force until the next hearing on September 28.

Separately, Bengaluru's Victory Cinema announced it will not screen Toxic despite weeks of talks with KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. The theatre said in an Instagram post that a profit-sharing deal proposed by the theatre was rejected by the makers, and a rental model suggested by the producers was not acceptable to the cinema. Victory Cinema said it made every offer it could, including showing the film on zero terms, but could not reach an agreement. It urged audiences to watch Toxic in other theatres.
