BJP councillors booked for Thane clash after MNS FIR

Police in Thane have registered a case against two BJP corporators, Abhijit Karanjule and Pawan Walekar, along with others, following a violent clash in Ambernath. The FIR was filed on a cross-complaint by Suhas Ghag, a local businessman, who alleged he was attacked with an iron rod and his vehicle was damaged outside the Shivajinagar police station on August 12. The case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, and no arrests have been made yet.

The development comes after police had earlier registered an FIR against leaders of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over the same incident. The clash between activists of MNS and the BJP took place in Ambernath, with both sides filing complaints. Hindustan Times reports that Ghag, in his complaint, said he was transporting injured relatives when a mob confronted him near the police station, leading to the assault.
