BJP announces new national team with eye on 2029 elections

The BJP has announced a new national team of office-bearers under party president Nitin Nabin, preparing for assembly elections and the 2029 Lok Sabha challenge. Out of 65 names announced, nearly 50 are new. The team includes three former chief ministers, 18 MPs, 10 women, and leaders from 23 states and Union territories. NDTV reports a special focus on the northeast, with three leaders from Tripura, Assam, and Nagaland.

Times of India notes that both Ram Madhav and Smriti Irani secured key positions, while Amit Malviya was dropped after 11 years as I-T cell head. Smriti Irani and Harish Dwivedi have been appointed national general secretaries. The team has one Sikh, two Christian, one Muslim, one Jain, and one Parsi member. Six office-bearers are below 40, 15 are in their 40s, and 21 are in their 50s.

Uttar Pradesh, which goes to polls in early 2025, has the biggest representation with eight leaders, including Smriti Irani. The BJP said the appointments balance regional and social diversity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, saying it brings together organisational experience, energy, and grassroots connect. Nitin Nabin said the team will further the vision of 'Viksit Bharat'.
