BJP plans Punjab tour, holds broad strategy meet for 2027 polls

BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh will begin a two-day tour of Punjab's five organisational zones on August 24, party sources said. The tour covers Patiala, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda and Ludhiana, where he will meet former and present BJP MPs, MLAs and other public representatives. Times Now reports the tour aims to gather inputs on how to win Punjab, where the BJP has never won alone, and that the BJP-SAD alliance is nearly finalised with a dispute over seat-sharing. Potential candidates may be identified during the exercise.

Separately, BJP president Nitin Nabin held a meeting on August 23 with newly appointed office-bearers to discuss strategy for high-stakes assembly elections due in several states next year, including Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. The meeting was attended by state unit presidents and key functionaries, with Santhosh present. A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the BJP headquarters and interacted with all 67 newly appointed national office-bearers for over five hours, urging them to increase youth outreach. The BJP also passed a 10-point resolution condemning Congress for singing only two stanzas of Vande Mataram and pledged to launch a nationwide campaign to promote the full version.
