BJP overhauls national team with 51 new faces for 2029 polls

The BJP on Monday announced a major organisational reshuffle under party president Nitin Nabin, inducting 51 new faces among 65 national office bearers. Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed general secretary, while former RSS functionary Ram Madhav is a new vice president. The party said the revamp balances youth and experience, with six office bearers below 40 and 21 in the 50-59 age group. Ten women and six minority community leaders are included, Times Now reported.

Union minister Piyush Goyal has been named national treasurer, following his father Ved Prakash Goyal who held the post for decades. BL Santhosh retains his key role as national general secretary (organisation). Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia is among 13 vice presidents retained or reappointed. All national morcha presidents have been replaced: Hemang Joshi takes over the Yuva Morcha from Tejasvi Surya, and Roop Kumari Choudhary replaces Vanathi Srinivasan as Mahila Morcha president.

The BJP described the overhaul as preparation for assembly elections through 2029 and the next Lok Sabha battle. Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Satish Poonia are among six new general secretaries. The party said the appointments ensure representation for major faiths, including Sikh, Christian, Muslim, Jain and Parsi members.
