Bobby Beauty Parlour director says audiences reject bad films

Shashwat Dwivedi, director of the short film Bobby Beauty Parlour, has said audiences no longer have patience for bad films. The film, which recently premiered on YouTube channel Oh Short Flips, tells the story of two young women trapped in a beauty parlour on a hot day. Dwivedi told Cinema Express he is drawn to stories where the conclusion feels forced rather than natural.

Dwivedi, who began making films at 14 and has worked as an assistant to Anurag Kashyap, said the fault for poor films lies with makers, not audiences. "It's not about attention span at all – it's about delivery of the promise you make," he said. He argued that Indian makers try to compete with reels, but when a film promises a cinematic experience and the shot changes every three seconds, the audience feels cheated.

Bobby Beauty Parlour is co-presented by Anurag Kashyap and Imtiaz Ali. The film stars Adrija Sinha and Parul Rana. Dwivedi's earlier shorts include Hey Jenny, Icecream, and Paudha.
