Botsa Satyanarayana says daughter Anusha to contest local body polls
Senior YSR Congress Party leader and former Andhra Pradesh minister Botsa Satyanarayana has announced that his daughter, Botsa Anusha, will enter electoral politics. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, he said she would contest the upcoming local body elections, possibly for the post of Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad chairperson. He made clear she would contest whether the election is direct or indirect.
Anusha is currently studying medicine but has been appearing at political programmes. Her entry would make four members of the Botsa family active in politics. The family has had a strong political presence in north Andhra Pradesh for nearly four decades. Botsa Satyanarayana started as a student leader in 1978 and has served as MP, MLA and minister in multiple governments.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The Botsa family has dominated north Andhra politics since the 1980s, with Botsa Satyanarayana shifting from Congress to YSRCP after the state's bifurcation in 2014. His wife Jhansi was already a two-time Zilla Parishad chairperson and former MP. By fielding his daughter now, Botsa is securing the next generation while his own political future is uncertain after YSRCP lost power in 2024. The Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad chairperson's post controls a budget of around Rs 200 crore, making it a prized local prize. The election date has not been announced yet.
