DDA opens 750 life memberships at Roshanara Club, from Rs 4 lakh
The Delhi Development Authority is offering 750 life memberships at the historic Roshanara Club in north Delhi, with applications opening on August 28 and closing on October 27. Of these, 400 memberships are priced at Rs 12.50 lakh plus GST for non-government applicants, while 350 memberships cost Rs 4 lakh plus GST for government and PSU employees.
The club, spread across 22 acres in Shakti Nagar, features a cricket ground, tennis and squash courts, a multi-gym, and banquet facilities. The DDA said the move aligns with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu's vision to make sports and recreational facilities more accessible. The DDA took over the over-100-year-old club, recognised as the birthplace of the BCCI, in September 2023.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The DDA's decision to open Roshanara Club to the public ends decades of restricted access at an institution that was originally a members-only club for the elite. The pricing creates a clear divide: Rs 12.50 lakh for general applicants versus Rs 4 lakh for government employees, effectively subsidising bureaucrats. With 750 slots and a four-month window, the scheme will test actual public demand for a club that has historically been inaccessible. The next signal to watch is how many applications the DDA receives by the 27 October deadline.
