DUSU polls on Sept 18, DU scraps Rs 1 lakh bond

Delhi University has announced the DUSU elections schedule for 2026. Voting will be held on September 18 from 8.30 am to 1 pm for day classes and 3 pm to 7.30 pm for evening classes. Counting will take place on September 19. The deadline for filing nominations is September 10, and the final list of candidates will be published on September 11.

The university has introduced several changes this year. The Hindustan Times reports that the Rs 1 lakh security bond introduced last year has been removed. Candidates found violating campus rules will now face disciplinary action or disqualification instead of a monetary penalty. Campaign convoys are limited to five vehicles per candidate, and stickers bearing candidate names or party symbols on vehicles are banned. Promotional giveaways and branded stalls are also prohibited.

The New Indian Express adds that the university tightened rules after a luxury car rally by ABVP supporters drew criticism. At a meeting with the Proctor, police, and student groups, the Proctor warned that violations could lead to cancellation of nominations or even the entire election. Candidates must obtain authorised vehicle stickers from the Proctor's Office, and alcohol or intoxicants on campus will result in immediate nomination cancellation. Delhi University is also planning to introduce EVMs for college-level polls in the 2026-27 session.
