Devdutt Padikkal falls for 167, joins Dravid and Pujara

Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed for 167 off 230 balls on the rain-affected second day of the opening Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. His innings, with 15 fours and a six, made him only the third Indian batter to score 150 or more from No. 3 against Sri Lanka, after Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Padikkal was stumped by wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella off Prabath Jayasuriya after stepping down the track. He had scored his maiden Test century on day one and became the first Indian to score a Test century on Independence Day. He received a standing ovation from the Galle crowd.

After play resumed, India lost Rishabh Pant for 39 and KL Rahul for 82. Rahul had retired hurt on day one. Padikkal was batting at No. 3 after an injury to Sudharsan. India were in a commanding position despite the quick wickets.
