England dethrone India to become No. 1 in T20I rankings

England have reclaimed the top spot in the ICC men's T20I team rankings after a 3-0 series sweep of Sri Lanka on Saturday. The hosts chased down 125 with 62 balls to spare at Old Trafford, led by Jos Buttler's unbeaten 62. England and India are tied on 269 rating points, but England's superior points-per-match ratio gives them the edge.

The win was England's 15th consecutive T20I victory over Sri Lanka, matching Pakistan's record against a full-member side. Captain Harry Brook, who took over in 2024, has now led England to 23 wins in 26 T20Is. Times Now News notes that England also set a record for the fastest 120-plus chase in T20Is against a Test-playing nation, reaching the target in 9.4 overs.

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka called the series a major disappointment and said it was an eye-opener for where his team stands in T20 cricket. The two sides will next play three ODIs, starting on Tuesday at Chester-le-Street.
