Food violations found at 36 Karnataka railway stations

Food safety officials inspected 112 establishments at 36 railway stations across Karnataka and found fungal vegetables, expired dairy products, suspected non-permitted colours in sweets and poor handling practices, The Times of India reports. The checks covered station hotels, railway pantries and food served on trains. Yellow colour was suspected in jalebi and pink colour in khova peda. Expired curd and milk packets were found in Haveri.

NDTV reports fungal growth on onions and vegetables, while chutney was stored in plastic buckets unsuitable for food use. Inspectors also found unhygienic conditions at KR Puram and expired products at Mysuru, where idlis were reportedly prepared using plastic material. South Western Railway said a 14-day safety drive was under way. Officials will inform railway authorities and initiate legal action against violators.
