Gautam Budh Nagar minimum wage hiked to Rs 13,883 from Oct 1
The Story in Brief
The Uttar Pradesh labour department has revised minimum wages for workers in Noida and Greater Noida, effective from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. Under the new variable dearness allowance (VDA) rates, unskilled workers will receive a monthly wage of Rs 13,883, semi-skilled workers Rs 15,271, and skilled workers Rs 17,106. Corresponding daily wages range from Rs 533.98 for unskilled to Rs 657.94 for skilled workers.
The adjustment follows a year of worker protests in Noida's industrial areas beginning in April 2026, which led to an interim wage increase. Officials clarified the latest revision is a routine VDA update based on the average All India Consumer Price Index of 431 points for January to June 2026, not a new wage settlement. Additional labour commissioner Rakesh Dwivedi confirmed the rates were calculated using the prescribed index.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The UP government has linked the revision to the VDA formula tied to the consumer price index, framing it as a technical adjustment rather than a response to protests. Workers in Noida and Greater Noida will see an increase of about 16% for unskilled and 18% for semi-skilled categories over the rates set after the April protests. The new rates are valid until 31 March 2027, after which the next VDA cycle based on the July-to-December 2026 index will determine any further revision.
