Guntur enforces complete ban on single-use plastic from today

The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Monday began enforcing a complete ban on single-use plastic and plastic carry bags below 120 microns in thickness across the city. Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok said the move aims to protect public health and the environment.

The ban applies to commercial establishments, shops, street vendors and the general public. Those found using or selling prohibited plastic items will face fines and legal action. Shopkeepers who violate the rules twice may have their trade licences cancelled and establishments sealed.

Ward-level task force teams will conduct daily inspections at wholesale and retail shops and warehouses. The GMC has urged residents to report violations by calling 0863-2345103 and to switch to eco-friendly cloth or paper bags.
