Himachal, Odisha shut schools, Punjab, Delhi-NCR open

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that all government schools in the state will be closed on August 17 as a compensatory holiday for Independence Day. The Directorate of School Education had ordered schools to remain open on August 15. Private schools can decide whether to observe a holiday, according to the CM.

Odisha's Jajpur district administration has closed all schools and Anganwadi centres on August 17 due to heavy rainfall warnings from the India Meteorological Department. Times Now reports that Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar and Balasore districts had earlier shut all educational institutes for the same reason.

Schools and colleges in Jalandhar, Punjab, are also closed on August 17 as compensatory leave. Schools in Delhi-NCR remain open, with no holiday announced.
