IMD issues three-day yellow warning for Odisha districts
The Story in Brief
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Odisha for three days starting 5 November. Day one covers nearly all districts, including Baleshwar, Khordha, Puri, Sundargarh and Koraput, with light to moderate rain expected statewide. Wind speeds may reach 30 to 40 kmph.
On days two and three, the warning narrows to five southern districts: Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam, where thunderstorm activity continues. The rest of Odisha is likely to see dry weather. The warning is valid until 8.30 am on 8 November.
Indian Opinion Analysis
The yellow warning covers a broad area for day one before contracting to five southern districts on days two and three, meaning the heaviest activity is expected within the first 24 hours. Residents across all 30 listed districts face lightning and gusty winds up to 40 kmph, but only the southern districts see continued alerts. The warning is valid only until the morning of 8 November, after which no extended forecast is given. Anyone in the affected southern districts through the weekend should expect wet conditions, while the rest of the state will see a return to dry weather. The next update will come when the IMD issues its next bulletin.
