Mumbai lab becomes first to get Nadcap nod for aerospace testing

Mumbai-based TCR Engineering Services has become the first independent Indian company to secure Nadcap accreditation for materials testing at its Navi Mumbai and Vadodara laboratories. Nadcap, administered by the US-based Performance Review Institute, is the industry quality standard that global aerospace majors like Boeing, Airbus and Safran require from their suppliers. The accreditation lets Indian aviation component makers perform third-party testing domestically instead of sending specimens to the US or Singapore.

Company president Rohit Bafna said this is expected to reduce certification costs for Indian companies by 70-80 per cent. The labs can conduct tensile, impact, bend, metallography, microhardness, Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers and electrical conductivity tests, plus alpha case evaluation on wrought titanium. Founded in 1973, TCR now holds separate Nadcap certificates for each laboratory. The development comes as major aerospace companies plan to increase component sourcing from India.
