Mumbai property registrations rise 8.3% in July, highest in 14 years

Mumbai city is projected to record 13,617 property registrations in July 2026, an 8.3 per cent year-on-year increase and the highest July figure in over 14 years, according to a Knight Frank India report. The Maharashtra government is expected to collect Rs 1,223 crore in stamp duty during the month, an 8.9 per cent jump from a year ago.

On a sequential basis, registrations rose 2 per cent month-on-month, while revenue collections climbed 13 per cent. The July 2026 registrations surpassed the previous peak of 12,579 in July 2025. Knight Frank India said the surge reflects sustained homebuyer demand despite a high comparative base.

Shishir Baijal, Chairman and Managing Director of Knight Frank India, said the city's residential market showed remarkable depth, with strong demand for higher-value homes. The first half of 2026 saw 80,221 registrations, a 6 per cent year-on-year rise and the best performance since 2013, with stamp duty revenue at Rs 6,968 crore.
